As I shared in my Ten Truths About Me post, I love all things home related including decorating, cooking, and entertaining. Whether this is is another clue to my calling remains to be seen, but I do know that I love me some HGTV and my heart sings a little when I come across blogs like Little Red House and Between Naps on the Porch which hosts a linkup called "Tablescape Thursday".
I certainly don't entertain every week, but this linkup intrigued me. So, I went the little extra mile when setting the welcome home dinner for Adam and Nick. I wasn't particularly pleased with how the photos turned out as I struggled with the lighting. But, here's my tablescape anyway.
I took several shots from different angles, and decided it would be best presented in a mosaic rather than a bunch of large images.
To be honest, I was worried that my preparations were a bit over the top for a couple of tough guy Marines, what with all the flowers and cloth napkins. But, Nick seemed really appreciative of it and thanked me multiple times and I think he appreciated being the recipient of what is known as a little "southern hospitality." His mother would be so proud of his good manners and what a gracious guest he was.
Adam made me beam when he responded to one of Nick's many expressions of gratitude during the meal by saying "this is what my mom does, she goes all out." He seemed proud of that, and that made me proud.
But, seriously, don't encourage me. I have a dish addiction as it is and I bought some new ones for this dinner. I get this from my mom. I'm going to run out of places to put my dishes and I may need to be careful just how much I entertain because this always seems to prompt a trip to Home Goods and there's nothing "good" about that where my wallet is concerned.
Maybe it was a little over the top, but when I stood up at the head of the table and proposed a toast to the boys welcoming them home and the glasses clinked over the candlelight and flowers, a warm rush of gratitude came over me and at that moment I took one of those mental snapshots that I will keep in the photo album of my memory forever. That moment was what it was all about for me.
I would have snapped pictures throughout the entire meal, but that seems to make people uncomfortable for some reason. :)
I did happen to sneak a couple of shots in before I was ordered to sit down and eat.
The theme for this week's 52 Photos Project is "This is My Home" so I'm linking up with Bella today, too.
