The Case of the Curious Killdeer

kildee eggs

Low light and a short focal length lens (as well as my relative inexperience in overcoming such obstacles) are to blame for the quality of these shots of a Killdeer that created her nest in the middle of my parent's drive way. She wouldn't let me get very close as her instinct is to run away from the nest, acting injured so I will come after her instead of her precious little babies.

She is so interesting that I had to share. Her eggs were quite lovely and unique as well.

It is time to make preparations for Flower Art Friday number 3, so I'm going to cut this short for today. Our number of flower fanatics appears to be growing and I hope to see many new as well as the familiar faces this week. Just a reminder, we open early (8:00 a.m. CST) on Thursday.

Ciao for now!

  1. She's really got you well trained!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  2. Great bird to have nesting on the driveway - excellant

  3. Interesting how your Killdeer has a different style of response than mine (see my post). I guess it is learned, in part, from their parents. Great Pictures ...
