Little Synchronicities

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about being called to stand in for a photographer who was working with a local no-kill animal shelter (Happy Tales Humane) on a fundraising photobook.

It was a fun and rewarding experience - especially since the feedback on my images was super encouraging. So much so, that I began to see that there might be a potential calling for me in the area of pet photography.

As it turns out, the other photographer had to bow out and I was asked to take over the entire project! There was a last minute scramble to get contracts together and negotiate my fees for the project in time to schedule enough shoots to finish the book and have it done in time for Christmas! Whew! Well, we got it done and I'm really happy about it.

The whole things came together so quickly and yet it fell in line so easily, I'm certain I was meant to get involved in this.

As if I needed another sign from the universe, I received in my mailbox last Friday, this beautiful post card - my first postcard delivery from Kat's "Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap."

Well, that gave me a few little goosebumps and I was covered in them by the time I had a look at the website of the artist - Pointypix.com. Not only is Nicola a talented artist, but she is apparently very much into making the world a better place for animals.

How cool is that?

  4. How perfect!!
There is a woman who attends our local farmers' market every week who does pet photography. She said that she has found it more rewarding than either family portraiture or wedding photography and because it is a niche market she feels it has been more profitable as well. I hope this grows and grows for you, my friend!

  7. If ever there was a case of serendipity then this is it!! I love that you got involved in the Happy Tales project - I've read articles about how having professionally taken photos of rescue dogs can make an amazing difference to the amount of dogs that go on to get rescued compared to the shots taken quickly through the bars of a cage of a scared little dog. And I'm especially glad that my postcard came at the perfect time as affirmation from the universe that this was what you are meant to be doing!
